The “Con” or is it real?
Last night, for a few minutes I watched a show titled, “The Con”. This was the story about Zach Avery and how he scammed Hollywood for $650M and earned a fat reward of 20 years in prison.
This morning I received the following text message: “Hey I found you on Google looking for a marketing company. Saw you had good reviews. Is this still the number for I.R. Gilyeat & Company.” Being a little curious and more than a bit interested in how companies are using SMS for prospecting I responded, “It is… how can we help?” (see picture below)
We had a pleasant text conversation, he/she sent me a link to their company web site and I ended with a request, “please send a link to where you saw the good reviews.” Crickets…
Surprisingly, at least I was surprised, the company appears to be a real company doing real business with recognized brands. Unfortunately, the sound of crickets… as in no response to the “good reviews” he/she referenced, leaves me with the feeling of being “con’d”. Not exactly the way you want to start a new business relationship.
